A 13-year-old boy from Darien is among the lucky contestants headed to the National Championship at National Geographic Society Headquarters on May 20 through 23 in Washington, D.C.
James Leone, a Darien eighth-grader, won the state competition in April to qualify for the national geography bee.
The winner receives a $50,000 college scholarship and a trip to the Galapagos Islands.
